Sensitive Midwifery Symposium is a highly acclaimed event on the Southern African maternal and child health calendar. It was initiated in 1996 and is organised by the Sister Lilian Centre. Delegates are drawn from the full spectrum of private, state, training and independent sector midwifery, obstetric, neonatal and child care services. They include midwifery leaders and policymakers; antenatal teachers; midwives and maternity nurse professionals; hospital antenatal, labour and birth unit staff; hospital postnatal unit and NICU nurses; students and lecturers of midwifery and neonatal nursing; doulas; well-baby clinic sisters; lactation consultants; and a few allied health professionals like doctors, occupational therapists and health journalists.
